Zimbabwe

    Population: 13 million

    Percentage in Poverty: 68%

Zimbabwe is a landlocked country in southern Africa, bordered by Mozambique to the east, South Africa to the south, Botswana to the west and Zambia to the north and northwest.  Throughout 2011 Zimbabwe demonstrated strong financial recovery with better than expected revenues, with the government delivering a small surplus. These signs reinforce the plans for recovery which the government has outlined in its 2011 Medium Term Plan. However a number of issues such as high wages, weak business confidence, transport costs, and weakened infrastructure mean Zimbabwe communities are still dependent on assistance for the provision of healthcare and other basic social services.
